Van.Olympics — VANOC · Contract

Role & scope: The official Olympic app aimed to immerse users in the Games with comprehensive sports and venue information. I helped test navigation across devices, ran sessions with 10 participants, and translated findings into refinements before worldwide app store launch.

Contributed as user research consultant on the official app for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics—improving navigation, usability, and engagement for a worldwide audience.

The Opportunity

The app needed to work intuitively across an extensive range of mobile devices for a global audience experiencing the Olympics in real time. Without rigorous navigation and usability testing, friction could undermine immersion in sports, venues, and event information.

The Solution

I contributed to user research testing navigation on many devices in simulated real-world scenarios, then observed 10 potential users interacting with the app—capturing frustrations, satisfaction moments, and improvement areas. Findings were compiled into actionable insights for the team.

The Impact

Refined app ready for official launch on app stores · Improved navigation and usability for attendees worldwide · Research-backed decisions on what to fix versus what already worked · More seamless, engaging Olympic experience for end users
